I'm Connor Murphy, a Junior Political Science Major from Arkansas but raised in New Jersey.
This past semester has been extremely humbling, both from the support of our community and from working with individuals who have knowledge and experience that dwarfed my own. After working directly with the two previous administrations, the opportunity granted by Dara and the SGA Senate to serve as the Student Body Vice - President allowed me to face and respond to realities many lack the opportunity or privilege to act upon. As diverse as our experiences and struggles are at Davidson, we found a common issue of a fundamental lack of resources. It’s a paradox: Those who are the most in need encounter the most trouble finding assistance. Whether it is the student stopped from pursuing particular coursework due to financial barriers, to family members that sideline their own hunger to make sure there’s food on the table back home, or every one of us suffering from a mental health condition that will remain undiagnosed and untreated due to stigma and an unawareness of how to seek help: for a school that claims a wealth of opportunities, if we are judged by what we afford our most vulnerable, we are a poor community. It’s the difficulty and prevalence of this particular issue that makes it worth working to rectify, which is why I hope to continue to due so as the President of our Student Government Association. Running with me is Shassata Fahim, an individual that has dedicated himself to this pursuit of providing to those most in need throughout his entire time at Davidson. He has worked tirelessly to advance the resources available to students across various intersectionalities, for marginalized communities across the board, and for the greater student body as a whole during his time with QuestBridge, the Muslim Students Association, and other campus groups and initiatives. Our common goal to improve our environment to where each student has the ability to realize their full potential. This is only possible by using the experience we’ve gained in leadership and interactions with every corner of campus to materialize diverse passions into policies that reflect them; from our foundation, we are able to work for our future. That being said, after working with countless members of the Davidson community, I am certain that the future of our school is bright no matter the results of this election. We all want to improve our school; we just have different paths of arriving there. I hope you all will share in our goal and trust in Shassata and I by voting for us as your next Student Government Association President and Vice - President! #FromOurFoundation, we are #ForOurFuture |
I'm Shassata Fahim, a Junior Sociology and Africana Studies Double Major from Rajshahi, Bangladesh but raised in Virginia.
As a first generation, Bangladeshi-American Muslim, coming to Davidson College as a QuestBridge Scholar has opened so many opportunities and doors for me that I am so blessed to have had. Davidson has given me so many different platforms to use my voice as a catalyst of change. Throughout all my time at Davidson, I have worked tirelessly to advance the resources available to students across various intersectionalities, for marginalized communities across the board, and for the greater student body as a whole. Through my work with the QuestBridge Scholars Network, the Muslim Student Association, the Student Initiative for Academic Diversity, the Council on Campus & Religious Life, etc., I have continuously used my platforms to further advance the work to ensure that Davidson's commitment to preparing its students for life during and after college is a reality. Connor and I both hope to work with the entire student body to be able to influence and institute tangible change that will benefit our campus and community, providing our student body with the resources we need to reach our full potential. I ask that you put your trust in us and vote for us as your next Student Government Association President and Vice President! #FromOurFoundation, we are #ForOurFuture. |
